Carbon offsetting

Well, having just returned from Italy (not too tanned because I am now of an age where wrinkles are more important than tan... although I do always feel better with a bit of colour!) I have offset our carbon contributions.

I have hummed and haaarrrrd over the different options but because I have always supported the W.W.F (not the wrestling I might add!!!) I thought I might as well use a company that they recommend. And so I ended up going with myclimate.

Now, whilst I know that the best thing to do is not to fly, I have already made a conscious decision to have one week's holiday in the UK this year (thus keeping carbon emissions low) and one in the heat somewhere. For me, carbon offsetting is a must - it is the only way I can feel that I have done my bit to help give something back.

I won't give all my climates' spiel as you can read that for yourselves, but the companies' that the W.W.F endorssed, seemed like a good place to start and I got a nifty certificate to prove that I have done my bit.

Besides, given that we both (the husband and I ) now furiously dislike those people at Amsterdam airport for their ridiculous attitude to sealed balsamic vinegar and the fact that his bag is still flying through the skies (even though we are comfy at home) means that we will probably be driving into France on our next holiday which will be better for everyone concerned.

There is (apparantly) a charity that pays amazonian types to maintain their rain forests, which, it is hoped, will prevent said forests from being chopped down. Prof Lovelock mentions giving money to these groups rather than carbon offsetting, but for the life of me I can't remember its name. If anyone would like to remind me.....
